Our websites have been updated. There is a new EMS Notice Board installed in Chancery Lane to increase awareness of our environmental policy & procedures in staff and visitors. We have agreed our internal stakeholders' EMS objectives for 2013.
Environmental footprint We will reduce our carbon emissions, defined as Co2e per employee, measured to Legal Sector Alliance standards and submitted for their 2012 Carbon emissions to be less than the recorded LSA average (defined as Co2 per employee)

2012 data submitted to Legal Sector Alliance for inclusion in their 2012 Report. Move to 'single site' Birmingham office has eliminated need for local taxis. We have commenced monitoring of our waste management contractors to demonstrate duty of care.
Energy efficiency We undertake to reduce our use of electricity We will deliver overall cumulative reduction of usage from 2011

We have agreed a new 2 year electricity contract for Chancery Lane to use electricity generated from renewable sources. (The Law Society is exempt from paying climate control levy).
Carbon neutrality We will consider active use of carbon trading to achieve carbon neutrality. We are committed to achieving reductions in our carbon footprint through further efficiencies and continuous improvement.

The market for carbon offsetting remains unpredictable. We have investigated several accredited schemes, but are currently concentrating on carbon initiatives that link with our other previously stated 2013 targets.
Paper use Reduce the amount of paper used We intend to deliver an overall reduction in paper consumption of 2.5 per cent over five years.

Printers and faxes Reduce the number of printers, multi-function devices and faxes We intend to move to centralised multi-function devices at the London sites.

We have issued procurement tenders for new multi-functional device equipment in Chancery Lane. Target installation date is July 2013.
External accreditation Continue full accreditation for Chancery Lane and Midlands sites We continue to pass LRQA surveillance reports.
Achieved
LRQA have renewed their Certificate of Approval for London premises from February 2013 to February 2016. We plan to achieve similar accreditation for our single Midlands site at The Cube in Birmingham.
