Who we are

  • Our organisation

The Law Society is the professional body for solicitors. Our role is to represent, support and promote solicitors in the UK and internationally. We also support a fair and just society by speaking out to defend the rule of law and access to justice for everyone when we believe these basic principles are under threat.

    Our people

Employees at the Law Society help to make sure that solicitors across England and Wales are represented effectively. They also help provide a wide range of products and services to our members, including helplines, books, events and accreditation schemes.

We employ over 400 people; the majority in London but also in the Midlands, Wales and Brussels.

Here are some results from our 2015 employee survey:

    • 82% of people see our organisation as an equal opportunities employer
    • 82% of people believe our organisation respects individual differences
    • 88% of people feel they / their team are encouraged to come up with solutions to work related problems

  • Our values

These three values guide what we say and how we act with each other, our members, our suppliers and our stakeholders. They are at the heart of everything we do:

Member focus: putting our members first and seeking to understand their needs

Respect: appreciating the diversity of our workforce and membership

Collaboration: working together and sharing knowledge and expertise to achieve the best possible outcomes

  • What do our people value most?

“I love working with bright, educated and intelligent people, both colleagues and our members”

"The people - they work with conviction, commitment and pride.”

“The value of the work it does for both the public and the legal sector, and how it considers people's livelihoods, not just the commercial interests of solicitors”
