Q&A with Christy Farrer

8 September 2016

Christy Farrer1. How long have you worked at the Law Society?

4 weeks.  Prior to this I have been working across the legal sector for over ten years, with experience in high street, big law and latterly global outsourcing and management consulting within the legal and professional sector.

2. What are you working on at the moment?

I am focusing on developing our engagement strategy , recognising the different segments within the profession and their associated needs to ensure that we tailor our approach to drive greater value for our Members.

3. What was your first job?

Governance, internal audit and legal services in further education.

4. Career highlight?

Completing an MBA and MSc whilst building my career working in-house in a large law firm as it broadened my thinking and enabled me to bring greater value to my role.  Personally however it was exhausting working full time, studying and being a mother of two!

5. Share some great advice you've been given.

Always delivery on promises made or communicate changes if you can't as that is the simplest way to build trust and demonstrate integrity.

6. What's in your desk drawers?

Shoes.

7. Can you recommend a local lunch or coffee spot?

The Holborn Dining Room has a lovely restaurant and gin bar at the back, great for lunch or an after work drink.

8. What's your pet hate?

Packed tubes in rush hour!

9. Favourite city?

London, its vibrant, cultural and there is always somewhere to be and something to do.

10. What did you want to grow up to be as a child?

An artist, I studied fine art at university but alas it didn't pay the bills so I now use my creativity in a business context and helping my children with their art homework.
