Promoting the profession
'This is a timely campaign with a series of sensible, straightforward messages that are capable of striking a chord with the public.'

Private client campaign - Your solicitor, qualified to answer
The Society ran a major advertising and PR campaign in 2008 to promote solicitors’ private client work. More than 1.5m copies of the Society’s guides to common legal problems were ordered and a number of local law societies used the materials to promote their members. The campaign addressed issues identified by representatives of the profession and was funded with income from the Society’s commercial activities.
England and Wales: the jurisdiction of choice
England and Wales is a highly attractive jurisdiction in which to resolve disputes. Linking up with law firms and the government, we are running a sustained campaign to promote the benefits to in-house counsel in targeted markets around the world, including China, Russia, Brazil, the US and the Gulf.
Promoting pro bono work
Research shows that two-thirds of private practice solicitors have conducted pro bono work at some point in their careers, estimated to be worth nearly £340m per year. We help to organise National Pro Bono Week each year to raise awareness of the free advice available and to encourage more solicitors to get involved.
Celebrating excellence
The second Law Society Excellence Awards will be presented in 2008. The Awards provide a rare opportunity to recognise and reward the most outstanding members of the profession, highlighting best practice in areas including business innovation, exporting legal services, business development, client service, practice standards, social responsibility and equality and diversity.
