Community
We actively support community investment activities including pro bono work, volunteering and charitable giving through a range of initiatives and activities including those outlined below
To recognise and celebrate best practice in these areas, our annual Excellence Awards include a community investment category.
Pro bono work*
- providing opportunities and training through partnership with LawWorks (operating name of the Solicitors Pro Bono Group)
- sponsorship of National Pro Bono Week and probonouk.net
- LawWorks and Junior Lawyers Division Pro Bono Awards
- seats on the Attorney General's Pro Bono and International Pro Bono Committees
- research on the pro bono work of solicitors and law students
* In all our activity, we stress that pro bono work is never a replacement for, and only an adjunct to, a properly funded legal aid system.
Volunteering
- International Action Team of volunteers who take part in human rights interventions and governance projects around the world
- A Local Lawyer in Every School (ALLIES) supporting lawyers acting as school governors
- Citizenship Foundation's Lawyers in Schools Twinning Programme
Fundraising and charitable giving
We support fundraising and charitable giving through:
- payroll giving scheme
- sponsorship and matched staff fundraising for events like the London Legal Walk
- profession wide charitable appeals for causes such as the Law Society of Zimbabwe and as a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee Rapid Response Network
- support of the Law Society Charity
