The East Midlands Regional Office, Leicester, provides support and information to solicitors in Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire, Grimsby and Cleethorpes, and Buxton and High Peak.
Regional issues
Practices in the region are predominantly high street firms. There are 542 firms operating in the East Midlands area. 43.4% are sole practitioners, and 38.9% have fewer than 5 partners.
Their concerns mirror High Street practices everywhere:
- The continuing decrease in legal aid funding.
- Threats to parts of their business from outside providers such as Will Writers and ‘Tesco Law’.
- Increasingly onerous money laundering regulations.
Our work
We provide support and information to local solicitors and facilitate communications between the Law Society, local law societies, local TSG/YSG and solicitors within the region: complementing their activities and encouraging joint initiatives. We also provide CPD courses and events as well as facilitate consultation exercises and road-shows.
