Computing facilities
We have computers providing access to Microsoft Office and general internet which can be used by library users free of charge. Just ask at the enquiry desk if you wish to use one.
The library provides free Wi-Fi in the library from free hotspot.
Access to subscription databases
The Law Society library provides access within the library to various online electronic resources, enabling visitors to search for cases, commentary, legislation, journal articles and forms and precedents. Our licence for the databases restricts access to members of the Law Society and their staff so day and week pass visitors cannot use these facilities.
We have the following:
- Justis - which provides full text original legislation, transcripts of cases and case reports. For more information, see the Justis website.
- JustCite - a legal citator which cross references cases, legislation and journal articles and shows how they are related. For more information on see the JustCite website.
- LexisLibrary - which provides updated legislation, cases, commentary, journal articles and forms & precedents. For more information, see the LexisLibrary website.
- WestlawUK - which provides updated legislation, cases, journal articles and news. For more information, see the WestlawUK website.
Printing
The computers in the library are connected to a black and white printer and copies can be printed for 20p per A4 page using a photocopy card. Please ask at the enquiry desk for more details.
Self-service photocopying
There is currently one black and white self-service photocopiers in the library which you can use, subject to copyright law, to make copies of library material. Copying costs 20p per A4 page. A second photocopier will be installed later in the year.
The library is part of the CLA Copyright Sticker Scheme so if you are copying for a commercial purpose you can purchase copyright permission from the enquiry desk to cover your copying.
Faxing
We can send or receive faxes for you at a charge of 20p per A4 sheet. Please ask at the Library Enquiry Desk.
Microfiche and Microfilm readers
The library has two microfiche/microfilm readers which are connected to a printer. Copies can be printed for 20p per A4 page.
Equipment for people with visual impairment
The library has a Magnilink CCTV which enlarges and alters text and background colour of printed material.
There are two computers providing access to the library’s subscription databases one has ZoomText which enlarges text on the screen. The other has Jaws screen reading and magnification software and a Braille keyboard.
