Compromise Agreements and Section 147 Equality Act 2010

The government has responded to Law Society calls for clarification about the validity of compromise agreements drafted under the Equality Act. The Equality Act 2010 (Amendment) Order 2012, which comes into effect on 6 April, will amend section 147 by confirming that an employee's lawyer can be an independent advisor for the purposes of preparing a compromise agreement.

The practice note 'Compromise Agreements and Section 147 of the Equality Act 2010' is no longer applicable and has been removed in light of the clarification to the law.
