Personal injury

Find a Solicitor

The law of personal injury enables private legal disputes, between people or organisations, involving injury to one's person to be resolved through negotiation or through the courts. The Civil Procedure Rules contain a pre-action protocol for Personal Injury that governs pre-action behaviour.

This is an area of law where we actively seek to improve the law, procedure and practice.

These pages do not attempt to explain current law or to give legal advice on personal injury. If you want to know more or if you need advice on a personal injury issue, you can find a personal injury lawyer using Find a Solicitor.

The Law Society has developed an accredited panel of solicitors (and others) who practise in personal injury. To be accepted onto the panel, members must prove that they meet the Law Society's rigorous standards.

Information about the Law Society's Civil Justice Committee

The Civil Litigation Committee comprises solicitors specialising in a range of civil litigation issues. The Committee identifies areas of civil litigation and procedure that require reform or review and formulates recommendations for consideration by ministers and officials. The Committee also liaises with and makes representations to ministers and officials on the Civil Procedure Rules, departmental consultations and civil litigation matters generally. In doing so, the Committee will often consult with the profession on issues concerning practice and procedure.

For details of the Committee's terms of reference, membership, and any sub committees/working parties that report to it see our directory of committees.
