Find a solicitor

There are different types of search, depending on who you're looking for.

What do you want to do?

Finding a firm of solicitors

To find a firm of solicitors, use the search for a firm of solicitors form, which provides contact details for thousands of law firms worldwide. Note that a firm may opt out of this list.

I want to find a lawyer near me - any tips?
The search recognises most postcodes and many locations. If you can't find what you're looking for straight away, try filling in more or different fields. Postcode data is supplied to us by the Post Office

The search returns up to 50 results, in the order of distance from the centre of the postcode / location you specified.

I've got a company in mind but I can't remember its full name
If you're unsure of the firm's exact name, try using an asterisk as a wildcard. For example, typing in *SMITH returns the names GOLDSMITH, SMITH and SMITHSON.

I want to find a specialist
The search lets you choose experts in particular areas of law. Look out, too, for the symbol panel logo, which denotes membership of an accreditation scheme. This means that a practitioner has gained recognition for expertise in a particular field.

For more on specialist solicitors and accreditation schemes, see Solicitors who specialise.

If you're still unsure what category your issue comes under, contact us.

Finding an individual solicitor

To find an individual solicitor, use the solicitor search, which gives details of every solicitor currently licensed to practise by the Law Society, including Registered European Lawyers and Registered Foreign Lawyers.

I've got a person in mind but I can't remember their full name
To search for a solicitor you must provide a last name. If you're unsure, use an asterisk as a wildcard. For example, typing in *SMITH returns the names GOLDSMITH, SMITH and SMITHSON.

Finding a solicitor in an organisation

The organisation search helps you find solicitors who aren't in private practice - in other words, those based in organisations such as Law Centres, Citizens' Advice Bureaux and in-house legal departments.
