Whether your solicitor charges you for costs depends on the circumstances.

When you win your case, the court will usually order the other side to pay your costs (the amount your solicitor is charging for doing work for you). However, when the court fixes the amount (or your solicitor agrees an amount with the other side) this may well be less than the full amount of your solicitor’s bill. Your solicitor is entitled to claim the outstanding amount of costs from you. When you instruct a solicitor ask them under what circumstances they may make a charge to you if you are successful.
