Legal aid
Legal aid is managed by the Legal Services Commission - www.legalservices.gov.uk.
Only firms awarded contracts by the Legal Services Commission can provide legally aided services. If you think you may be entitled to free legal advice, you should check that the firm you choose has a contract with the Legal Services Commission, to deal with your legal problem.
For further information about the legal issues covered by legal aid and some information about entitlement to free legal advice can be found on our paying for legal services page. You can also use the Legal Service Commission's legal adviser finder to search for an adviser.
Fixed fee interview
Even if you don't qualify for legal aid, the first appointment with a solicitor can sometimes be low cost or free of charge. The solicitor can use this appointment to diagnose your problem, tell you what solutions the law can offer or to discuss costs.
More information about fixed fee interviews can be found on our paying for legal services page.
Wheelchair access
Some organisations offer wheelchair accessible facilities. Some may also offer other services for people with disabilities. You may want to find out from the firm what facilities they can offer.
