Freedom of information

  • Law Society information code of practice

The Law Society is not covered by the Freedom of Information Act but we believe in being as open as possible about what we do. We already make a lot of information available on our website as this is the main way we promote our work and activities.

Our information code of practice explains how you can ask for information if you cannot find it on our website.

Freedom of information code of practice (PDF 60kb)

    The document explains:

    • how to make a request for information and if there might be a cost
    • how we handle a request for information
    • what sort of information we may not provide to you
    • what to do if you are unhappy with how we have handled your information request

Please be aware that the Law Society information code of practice only applies to information held by the Law Society. It excludes any information held by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). If you are interested in information held by the SRA, please refer to the SRA Transparency Code.

    Requests for information
