1000th CQS firm accredited

The Law Society accredited its 1000th Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) firm today, less than a year since applications opened.

Coventry-based Penmans Solicitors LLP has become the 1000th accredited CQS firm. The total number of law firm branches with the CQS mark in England & Wales is 1548. Applications to join the scheme stand at 1579.

Law Society President John Wotton said: “Reaching 1000 in less than a year is indeed a milestone, far exceeding our expectations, but CQS is not just about numbers, it is about setting the bar for conveyancing and rebuilding confidence amongst lenders and making it easier for home-buyers to identify genuine quality when buying or selling a home. Recent developments elsewhere in the conveyancing market show that the Law Society is leading the way in conveyancing and that others are now following.'

Philip Jones, Head of Conveyancing at Penmans Solicitors LLP, said: 'With the ever changing legal marketplace it is important that legal firms show they are best placed to deliver first class legal services not only in conveyancing but throughout the legal sector.

'My firm wanted to become a CQS accredited firm because we regard this quality mark as the best way of demonstrating to lenders, other professionals we deal with and of course our customers, that we are more than capable of delivering a quality and efficient service whilst still being able to maintain the highest standards.

'Penmans are delighted to be the 1000th firm accredited with this standard and it shows the desire and support the profession have for it that so many have embraced it in such a short amount of time.'

The news comes on the back of a recent YouGov survey, conducted on behalf of First Title, which shows consumers are generally happy with the service they receive from solicitors in conveyancing, but were cautious about buying their conveyancing services from big brands.

John Wotton said: “Consumers clearly attach value to the services solicitors such as Penmans Solicitors LLP provide. CQS is enhancing that accurate perception of solicitors.”

Penmans Solicitors LLP is a nine member firm with offices in Coventry, Kenilworth and Wellesbourne serving the West Midlands and Warwickshire.
