Leading international integrated support services company
Carillion plc has secured the Law Society's international practice
management standard Lexcel for its legal teams across the
globe.
Carillion, which has offices across the UK, Ireland, the Middle
East, North Africa and Canada, and operates globally became the
first FTSE 250 listed company to gain the Lexcel mark from the Law
Society in 2006 for its UK based team. Now it has built on this
achievement and successfully extended its accreditation to its
overseas offices after undergoing a rigorous application and
assessment process.
Law Society President John Wotton said: 'In house legal teams
have a vital role to play at the heart of large businesses. By
securing the Lexcel accreditation across the board Carillion is
acknowledging the importance of that role and sending a message to
their clients and competitors that they invest in high standards in
legal services.
Carillion's achievement means Carillion is the first Lexcel
accredited company with a presence in Canada, that Lexcel is
gaining traction on an international scale and that Lexcel is of
growing importance for in-house counsel.'
Carillion Company Secretary and Director of Legal Services
Richard Tapp said: 'Achieving Lexcel accreditation is consistent
with Carillion's values and our group policy of acquiring
recognised quality marks for our work.In particular this year
Carillion Legal was keen to take advantage of the international
nature of the Lexcel standard to extend accreditation to our
overseas offices in Toronto and Dubai and demonstrate to our
internal and external audience that Carillion Legal operates to
high standards across all areas and regions in which we have a
presence.'
Carillion's portfolio of projects and contracts includes: the
International Broadcast Centre for the London 2012 Olympic games;
the 10 year contract for Oxfordshire County Council property and
facilities management services; the Channel Tunnel Rail Link to St
Pancras; the Royal Opera House, Muscat, Oman; the Yas Hotel which
forms the centre piece of Abu Dhabi's Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit;
and Toronto's Union Station Revitalisation.
There are now more than 1100 other legal practices - in house
and private with Lexcel accreditation, including practices in
Scotland, Poland and the Republic of Ireland.
To gain and retain Lexcel accreditation, practices and legal
teams must undergo a rigorous initial then annual application and
assessment process. This includes conducting suitability checks and
an on-site visit from an experienced, trained Lexcel assessor.
