Junior Lawyers debate super-injunctions and bribery at International Weekend

From super-injunctions to the impact of alternative business structures, the issues up for discussion at this year's Junior Lawyers Division International Weekend are diverse and relevant.

Junior lawyers from around the world will gather from 29th September to 1st October for the exciting annual event which coincides with the opening of the legal year.

Law Society vice-president Lucy Scott Moncrieff will open the weekend with a welcome address, joined by JLD chair Judith Perkins and Amina Omar Nieto, president of the European Young Bar Association.

Other influential speakers include Wm. T. Robinson III, president of the American Bar Association, and Nicholas Green QC, immediate past chair of the Bar Council of England & Wales.

Topics include the Bribery Act, Alternative Business Structures, social media and super-injunctions, a celebrity's right to privacy and effective leadership. There will also be a training session on communication skills.

Judith Perkins said this year's International Weekend will equip junior lawyers with practical career development skills.

'Lawyers need to be aware of emerging changes in the legal services market, and the challenges and opportunities this may bring, especially those who are just beginning their journey in the profession.

'The media coverage of super-injunctions this year has also raised many questions surrounding privacy and freedom of speech, and we hope to gain some insight into these issues through lively debate and expert opinion.

“The International Weekend is an excellent networking opportunity and a chance for lawyers to meet peers from around the world and make lasting connections.

'Delegates will experience the best of legal London, with visits to the Old Bailey and Royal Courts of Justice included in the itinerary. We have an exciting mix of practical and social activities which is sure to make this a very enjoyable and worthwhile weekend.'
