Law Society leads
delegation to IBA in Dubai
The Law Society will lead a
delegation of law firms to Dubai to coincide with the annual
International Bar Association Conference.
As well as attending the IBA
conference, the Society will lead the delegation on a parallel
visit to the region to help explore business opportunities
overseas.
Law Society president John
Wotton will be leading the delegation alongside the head of the
International Department Julia Bateman. Delegates will take in
Middle East regional legal and economic briefings, networking and
seminars with regional business groups and will attend the Law
Society's evening reception following the opening of the IBA
Conference.
John Wotton will also be the
keynote speaker at a British Business Group Dubai breakfast, where
he will discuss the Bribery Act and how it affects British
businesses in Dubai.
John Wotton said: “The IBA
Conference is a major event in the legal calendar, but there is
also scope for the Society and the delegation to strengthen our
links with the UAE through the regional programme we have arranged.
The region remains a hive of economic activity and offers many
opportunities for the UK legal services sector. What better time to
emphasise the value our members can bring than during the IBA
Conference?
“The Law Society is
sharing a stand at the IBA Conference with UK Trade &
Investment to promote English legal services and the profession.
Joining up with UKTI illustrates the joined up effort in
highlighting the value of legal services around the
world.”
The Law Society has built strong
links in the region, having previously led trade delegations there.
The Society also runs a Law Society Gulf lawyers training programme
in Dubai. The programme, now in its fourth year, is delivered in
partnership with one of the UK's leading legal training institutes,
the College of Law.
