Lawyers from world's fastest growing economy
seek UK link-up
Lawyers from Turkey, the world's fastest
growing economy, will link-up with the UK legal sector at the Law
Society next month.
The Law Society will host a three day
event from October 26-28 at its Chancery Lane headquarters. Law
firms in Turkey and UK law firms will gather to discuss
opportunities for doing business in their respective countries, and
how changes to the Turkish Commercial Code that bring Turkey's
commercial sector in line with global practice, can provide
benefits for law firms and their clients.
Turkey was the world's fastest growing
economy in the first six months of this year, driven by intensive
investments from the private sector, according to data from the
Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat).
Law Society Deputy Vice President, Nick
Fluck, who will be hosting the programme, says:
“Recent change in Turkey's
commercial regulatory landscape is making inward investment in that
country more accessible. With that change comes the prospect of
more co-operative working between UK law firms and their Turkish
counterparts. Investors too will now face fewer hurdles and an
environment with which they are much more
familiar.
“This event represents a meeting of
mutual benefit to both the UK and Turkish legal sectors. The UK's
legal sector continues to be the jurisdiction of choice for the
commercial sector and therefore the world's investors still turn to
UK lawyers, irrespective of where they look to invest, whilst
the rapid growth in Turkey's economy means there are significant
opportunities for our members and their clients.
'Judging by the high numbers of Turkish
firms already signed-up, more than a month before the event, it is
clear there is great interest in this
programme.”
As well as a series of day time
discussions and speeches, there will be networking events for those
attending.
