The new Master of the Rolls, Lord Dyson, has been confirmed as the keynote speaker at the Law Society's Civil Justice Section Conference - Litigators: Survive & Thrive in October.
In a year of 'critical change' for civil justice, the Law Society says that this year's conference, which takes place on 18 October 2012, is of particular importance to those lawyers working in this field.
Lord Dyson, who takes up the office of Master of the Rolls on October 1, will give the keynote speech before many other high-profile speakers discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the civil litigation sector.
Law Society president Lucy Scott-Moncrieff said:
'Lord Dyson's keynote address, I am sure, will be of immense value to those attending and adds further weight to what is an already knowledge-rich line-up of speakers covering a broad range of topics of major interest to civil litigators.
'In a year when we are seeing the Jackson proposals enacted, referral fees scrapped and the introduction of contingency fees, not forgetting a difficult economic climate, civil justice litigators will have to adapt to new ways of working. This year's conference, therefore, comes at a time of critical change for this sector of the profession.
'The conference programme is forward-looking, anticipating new areas for civil litigators, collective redress and how alternative business structures fit into the litigation landscape.'
The Law Society Civil Justice Section Conference will also cover a host of other issues including litigation funding, gaining work from in-house lawyers, marketing and press relations, and advocacy.
Other key speakers at the conference, which will take place at the Law Society, Chancery Lane, London, include Brett Carron of Harbour Litigation Funding Ltd, Catherine Nelson of lastminute.com and Ken Fowlie, Executive Director of Slater and Gordon, to name a few.
