Commenting today on plans by ministers to legislate on whether prisoners should be allowed the vote following a ruling from the European Court of Human Rights that stated a blanket ban on prisoners serving custodial sentences voting is unlawful, a Law Society spokesperson said:
'The Law Society believes it is important that the rule of law is upheld and that the government should adhere to decisions made by a properly constituted court, to whose establishment we were and are a signatory.
'The Law Society will be closely scrutinising the proposed legislation.'
