This edition contains: Information security guidelines planned for solicitors Information security guidelines planned for solicitors The Law Society has initiated a project to develop core information security guidelines for solicitors. The guidelines will deal with solicitors' professional and legal obligations for information security, management principles and generic technology issues, particularly in relation to the provision of online services. Read more Home Information Packs: Minister makes statement Housing Minister Yvette Cooper has recently made a statement suggesting that Home Information Packs will benefit first time buyers. The statement was accompanied by a number of facts and figures that may be of interest to property conveyancers. Read more HM Courts Service Business Strategy launched HM Courts Service has published a five year vision for service transformation. Upgrading IT infrastructure, the use of the internet and the generation of administrative efficiencies from IT are central. Read more DTI Information Security Breaches Survey results 2006 The findings of the latest Information Security Breaches Survey will be launched in April. In the meantime the DTI will issue factsheets outlining aspects of the findings and suggesting good practice in information security. Security Corner - strategies for keeping the bad guys out Alan Liddle, Technical Director of Trustis, a specialist provider of internet security services In previous articles I have discussed detailed aspects of protecting your PC, but to date have neglected protection of the main access route. In this month's article I am covering firewalls and strategies for keeping the bad guys out of your computers and network. Information Technology and the Courts Committee (ITAC) The Department for Constitutional Affairs (DCA) has announced that Lord Justice Neuberger and Professor Richard Susskind OBE have been appointed as co-chairs of the Information Technology and the Courts Committee (ITAC). They take over from Lord Saville who is retiring as chair of ITAC. ITAC is 'a focal point for organisations interested in the use of IT in courts and tribunals, from the Council of Circuit Judges to the Law Society and numerous government departments and agencies.' The committee was established by the Lord Chancellor in 1985. |
