Parliamentary brief: Homelessness Reduction Bill

The Law Society is calling for MPs to support the Homelessness Reduction Bill as an effective legislative measure in support of the Government’s objective of reducing homelessness.

The Statutory homelessness and prevention and relief report published in April 2016 by the Department of Communities and Local Government states that the termination of an assured shorthold tenancy with a private landlord is the most common reason for the loss of the last settled home. Once these tenancies come to an end, many people struggle to find an affordable alternative, which can result in them entering into hidden homelessness, rough sleeping, or living in unsuitable accommodation.
