Commitment scheme

The Lexcel Commitment Scheme has been developed to encourage practices to register their genuine commitment towards applying for Lexcel accreditation. The scheme offers additional support for practices and adds motivation by providing a deadline for practices to work towards.

There is no cost to join the scheme. All we ask is that you advise us of a date that you hope to undertake a Lexcel assessment. We can then provide support to make sure progress is being made towards meeting the target assessment date. If you do not meet your target date there is no penalty. All we ask is that you keep us informed.

The Lexcel Commitment Scheme offers a number of benefits:

telephone assistance from the Law Society on queries about complying with the Lexcel requirements
additional support or guidance from your nominated/local assessment body
copy of ‘Lexcel Link’, our quarterly newsletter with news and guidance on Lexcel
additional news, guidance and information on gaining and retaining Lexcel
10% reduction in Lexcel practices training, organised by the Law Society
credit for compliance on pre-application assessments: for CS practices, any areas of compliance identified in a pre-application assessment now count towards a formal Lexcel assessment. Contact us for further details

How to register

All practices have to do to register is complete the Lexcel Commitment registration form (DOC, 41kb). To ensure commitment, the senior partner or head of legal services must sign the form. We will issue a commitment certificate to each registering practice or legal department, including multiple copies if there is more than one branch.

Confidentiality

The Law Society will not make the list of committed practices public knowledge. However, if you indicate on the registration form that you are happy for us to share your details with your nominated/local assessment body, then your contact details will be passed on.

Practice can decide themselves whether they wish to advertise registration to their clients and their insurer/broker, etc. We will make available the overall number of practices which have registered.
