Non-member use of the library

If you would like to use the Law Society library as a non-member you will need to contact us beforehand to explain why you require access, along with details of your experience of using legal materials. We reserve the right to refuse admission to the library.

During your visit, we expect you to able to do your own research, and to require minimal assistance from the Library team. Due to licence restrictions, you will not be able to use the subscription online legal databases, e.g. Lexis, Westlaw, Justis.

Fees

Charges for non member use of the library are as follows:

  • One day £16 (incl VAT)
  • One week* £32 (incl VAT)

*or for five consecutive days that the library is open, e.g. Thursday to Wednesday inclusive.

If you are permitted to use the library, we will contact you and ask for payment before your visit. You may pay by cheque (payable to the Law Society), or we can take credit card payment (not American Express or Diners) over the telephone. Invoices will not be issued. Applicants are requested to bring photo ID when you visit the Library, such as a driving licence or a passport.
