Debt Relief Orders

In force from 06 April 2009

A new form of debt relief called a Debt Relief Order (DRO) is due to come into force on 6 April 2009.

Practitioners must apply to a competent authority to become an approved intermediary and be able to assist debtors in making their DRO applications to the Insolvency Service.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority is not registered as a competent authority so holding a practising certificate is not sufficient to act as an approved intermediary. This practice note advises you on the new procedure.
