Supervision

The proper supervision of work is a legal and professional requirement. Good supervision is also an important factor in motivating and retaining staff. However, the skills needed to be a successful solicitor do not necessarily encompass those needed to be a good and effective manager.

This practice note provides advice on how to ensure that you can be both a good solicitor and a good supervisor, and gives advice to those being supervised on how to ensure they receive effective supervision.

From 6 October 2011

This practice note has been updated to take into account outcomes-focused regulation (OFR) which comes into force on 6 October. The Solicitors' Code of Conduct 2007 will still apply to conduct before 6 October 2011.
