• EU relationship

  The future of the UK's relationship with the rest of the EU is a hot topic. The Law Society is contributing to the debate.

• Criminal legal aid

  We believe government plans to introduce price-competitive tendering for criminal legal aid are unworkable, and possibly unlawful.

• Professional indemnity insurance

  We aim to create a stable and competitive insurance market to ensure affordable and accessible insurance for the entire profession.

• Conveyancing panels

  We have been working hard to respond to a series of unwelcome and often confusing changes to lender panel membership.

• Costs

  Lord Justice Jackson has recommended sweeping changes to litigation funding and solicitors' costs. We believe the proposals will reduce access to justice, increase costs to business and result in a windfall for insurers.

• Regulation of will writers

  The Law Society is concerned by the absence of regulation for will writing and the damage that the absence of such protection can have on the public.

• Education and training

  The Law Society is working to improve the current training system for legal students, with a particular focus on ethics and the Legal Education and Training Review

• Digital working

  We are working with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and other defence practitioner groups to resolve a number of concerns over CPS plans for digital working.

• Mortgage fraud

  The Law Society is committed to assisting solicitors in protecting themselves and their firms from being exploited.
