Winner: Nigel Priestley - Ridley & Hall LLP

The judges thought Nigel Priestley is exactly the type of solicitor who the profession should be commending - he is one who demonstrates through his work a passion for correcting the injustices of society and he has recently won two landmark cases which have national implications. He is also responsible for setting up the twinning link when he was president of Huddersfield Law Society with the Uganda Law society. He is an exemplar to all in the legal sector.


Shortlisted: Daniel Winterfeldt - Simmons & Simmons

Daniel has shaped market practice in the London capital markets and provided innovative solutions to his clients through his practice and the Forum for US Securities Lawyers in London. Additionally, Daniel constantly strives to improve equality and diversity in the profession through his work with the Interlaw Diversity Forum, and the Simmons CR and diversity partner.

Shortlisted: Mohammed Idris Mir - Mir Solicitors

Idris provides a professional, first class service, is respected by his peers and is an ambassador for the profession. He is a higher court advocate, president of Bradford Law Society and was instrumental in setting up the Northern Muslim Lawyers Association. He founded Mir Solicitiors in 2005 with a focus on quality and service, and has Lexcel and Investors in People accreditation.

Shortlisted: Jules Carey - Tuckers

Jules has represented individuals aggrieved by the state in some truly groundbreaking cases - the first case in the Supreme Court, Lotfi Raissi’s exoneration and now the Tomlinson family. He is a fighter and works with tireless energy, creativity and sensitivity which he combines with a vibrant good humour.

Shortlisted: Kate Harrison - Harrison Grant

Kate Harrison represented six London Boroughs and five environmental charities in a judicial review of the Government’s decision to provide policy support for a third runway at Heathrow Airport in January 2009. This groundbreaking case has wide-ranging implications for aviation policy and carbon-intensive infrastructure in other sectors.

Shortlisted: James Stewart - Central London Collaborative Forum

James has worked to improve the reputation of the profession at a time when family lawyers have been subject to much criticism. His use of social media is inspiring and his energetic support of alternative dispute resolution has confirmed his position as one of the most admired family lawyers in this jurisdiction.
