  • The Government and Parliamentary Affairs Unit is at the heart of the Law Society's work influencing government, parliament and key stakeholders in the UK.

By harnessing the collective knowledge, experience and expertise of the legal profession, the Society seeks to provide leadership in the development of public policy solutions to challenges facing the legal services sector.

As the Society is a professional body governed by a royal charter, our work engaging with government and parliament is underpinned by our duty to act in the public interest. For this reason, the unit works closely with the Society's members to assist policymakers when considering changes to the law or making new laws.

The unit also undertakes activity to promote the interests of the solicitors' profession, and seeks support among government members and parliamentarians for the fundamental legal principles of access to justice and the rule of law.
