The Law Society (jointly with the General Council of the Bar) supports the work of the All Party Parliamentary Group on legal and constitutional affairs.
The group, which was formed in 2008, has two objectives:
- To provide a forum within parliament for legally qualified and legally interested members of parliament to debate and discuss contemporary legal issues.
- To facilitate interaction between members of the legal profession and parliamentarians on matters of importance to the profession and the country.
The group has over 40 members from both the House of Commons and House of Lords, representing the UK's major political parties including lawyers, former judges and law officers as well as those with little or no legal background but with a keen interest in the subject.
The group's current chairman is the Rt Hon Lord Hunt of Wirral, a former Conservative cabinet minister and senior partner at DAC Beachcroft between 1996 to 2005. Full details of the group's members can be found on the parliament website.
