Communications Review - Law Society response letter

14 September 2012

The Law Society welcomes the government's review of the communications regulatory framework.

We have established a reference group of expert communications and internet lawyers to formulate the Law Society's response to the reform process, instigated by the Communications Review.

In the absence of detailed proposals at this stage we made some general points. The response highlighted that reform should be based on a rigorous evidence base of problems with and gaps in the existing regime.

The response sets out a number of principles that should inform any proposals that come forward and ensure any new framework is effective.

Finally, the review should take account of other initiatives under way (eg the Hargreaves reforms) and minimise overlap with other policy issues, which are best dealt with as part of other policy areas.
