Ministry of Justice consultation on transforming the services of the OPG

18 October 2012

The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) is working with the Government Digital Service (GDS) to deliver new services that take advantage of digital technology to assist in the making of Lasting Powers of Attoney (LPAs) and in the supervision of deputies.

This consultation seeks views on changes the OPG wishes to make in 2013 and also invites initial comments on some broader changes which may be made in the future.

The Law Society welcomes the opportunity to respond to this consultation. We believe that any new Lasting Powers of Attorney form developed by the OPG should be simple and straightforward.

The LPA form is designed to be completed by members of the public and if the current form is made more complicated or becomes confusing, this will increase the chances of individuals filling out the form incorrectly and having to spend time and money putting it right.
