Solicitors qualifying examination (SQE) and the new SRA regulations consultation – Law Society briefing

Posted: 4 July 2017

What does this briefing cover?

It sets out a broad summary of the SQE for members and describes the key points to be aware of in the SRA's latest consultation (on SQE regulations).

What is the SRA currently consulting on?

To support the next stage of the process the SRA has recently published the latest consultation in the series (on 31 May 2017) which focuses on the regulations designed to support the SQE.

How does this fit into future plans?

The SRA confirmed on 25 April 2017 that it was pressing ahead with the SQE. It plans to publish a tender in 2017 to identify an assessment partner, and the new regime is likely to come into effect in 2020.
