How much does it cost to enter?

There is no fee for entering the Excellence Awards. However if you would like to make a donation to the Law Society Diversity Access Scheme (DAS) please email awards@lawsociety.org.uk. We welcome voluntary contributions and a suggested amount is between £15-£30.

Our firm has many individuals and teams doing exceptional work. Is there a limit on how many entries we can submit?

No there is no limit on how many entries you can submit. Firms and teams are encouraged to submit as many entries as they like, in as many categories that apply to their business or project. Please note you will need to complete separate entries for each firm/team or individual category you choose to enter.

What are the criteria for the individual awards, such as Junior Lawyer of the Year?

Entrants for the individual awards should refer to the categories and criteria and take note of any specific entry instructions - eg Junior Lawyer of the Year category. Use the criteria to explain in up to 500 words why you or the nominated person should receive the award.

What are the criteria for the team/firm awards, such as Learning and Development and Marketing and Communications?

The categories and criteria for the firm/team awards provide specific information on each category. Each entry should provide no more than 150 words under each of the below headings:

  • an outline of the initiatives/action taken
  • reason for taking these initiatives/actions
  • any significant issues addressed
  • the benefits to the practice or organisation
  • evidence of impact on clients or others

Can non-solicitors be nominated?

Yes. The Law Society is committed to celebrating excellence across all disciplines in the legal profession. Firms and teams from across the legal sector are encouraged to enter any category that applies to their project or business. Most individual categories require nominees to be practising and on the roll of solicitors for England and Wales, so please check the entry rules and procedures beforehand.

Can I nominate someone for an individual award if I am not from a law firm?

Yes. The individual awards are designed to reward outstanding contributions to the legal profession, which may take many forms. If you know of an exceptional legal professional, please feel free to nominate them for an individual award. The same principle applies for team/firm awards.

What is the deadline for entries?

The deadline for entries was Friday 26 May if you nominate using our online form.

When does the judging take place?

How will the awards be judged?
