Other facilities

  • Computing facilities

    We have computers with Microsoft Office and internet access which can be used free of charge by library users. Just ask at the enquiry desk.

    The library also provides free Wi-Fi.

    Access to subscription databases

    The Law Society library provides access to the following online resources which can be used to search for cases, commentary, legislation, journal articles and forms and precedents. Our licence for databases restricts access to members of the Law Society and their staff, so day and week pass visitors cannot use these facilities.

    We have the following:

    • Justis - Full text original legislation, transcripts of cases and case reports.
    • JustCite - A legal citator which cross-references cases, legislation and journal articles and shows how they are related.
    • LexisLibrary - Updated legislation, cases, commentary, journal articles and forms and precedents.
    • LexisPSL - Guidance on the law and how to apply it in practice. It includes practice notes, checklists, precedents, and forms. .
    • WestlawUK - Updated legislation, cases, journal articles and news.

    Printing

    The library computers are connected to a black and white printer. The cost, using a photocopy card, is 20p per A4 page. Please ask at the enquiry desk for more details.

    Self-service photocopying

    There are two black and white self-service copiers in the library. Copies cost 20p per A4 sheet. The copiers accept both cash and copy cards, which can be purchased in the library.

    The library is part of the CLA Library Licence Scheme. If your copying is for commercial purposes you can purchase a copyright licence from us.

    Faxing

    We can send and receive faxes and also scan and email your documents at a charge of 20p per A4 sheet. Please ask staff for help with these services.

    Microfiche and microfilm readers

    The library has two microfiche/microfilm readers which are connected to a printer. Copies can be printed for 20p per A4 page.

    Equipment for people with visual impairment

    The library has a Magnilink CCTV which enlarges and alters text and background colour of printed material.

    There are two computers providing access to the library's subscription databases. One has ZoomText which enlarges text on the screen, the other has Jaws screen reading and magnification software and a braille keyboard.
