Research Roundup - Issue 2, April 2016

18 April 2016

Issue 2 of Research Roundup, the Law Society's quarterly publication highlighting recent research on the legal services market, includes reports published over the last three to four months and covers a range of themes, including technological innovation, issues in specific areas of legal need, the use of regulation to improve information for purchasers, and the price and value of legal services.

Highlights of this issue include:

  • A continued look at the place of technology in legal practice, from the use of games to guide litigants in person to the potential risks of automation and a hybrid future of man and machine.
  • For purchasers or legal services, an assessment of the quality of legal advice available to asylum seekers and the notion that renting your home may bring a cluster of more non-housing related legal problems.
  • Legal services regulators lag far behind those in other sectors, resulting in a lack of transparency around important choice factors like price and quality of services, this comes together with a call to legal services to address issues of inaccessible communications, lack of trust and improving services for vulnerable consumers.
