Government guidance on coronavirus and apprenticeships
The government is regularly updating its guidance on apprenticeships during the coronavirus pandemic.
Apprentices can continue and complete their apprenticeship where possible, even if they have to take a break due to coronavirus.
The government aims to make it easier for apprenticeships to continue by allowing apprentices to pause their learning or do their learning or assessment in a different way.
The guidance:
- encourages training providers to deliver training and assessments remotely, as far as possible
- states that apprentices can have their end-point assessment rescheduled
- states that apprentices whose gateway (the milestone checkpoint prior to this) is delayed can have their assessment timeframe extended
- allows employers and training providers to report and begin a break in learning where the interruption due to coronavirus is greater than four weeks
- gives more detail on furloughing of apprentices
- explains how to record breaks in learning so that funding is not disrupted unnecessarily
The guidance and measures the government releases directly, or through the Institute of Apprentices and Technical Education, will apply until further notice. The guidance is updated regularly, so we recommend checking it often.
