What are the four categories of fee earner?
What are the categories of fee earner as outlined in the Senior Court Costs Office (SCCO) Guide to Summary Assessment of Costs?
There are four grades of fee earner:
A) Solicitors and chartered legal executives with eight years' or more post qualification experience.
B) Solicitors and chartered legal executives with four years’ or more post qualification experience. Costs lawyers undertaking advocacy or litigation.
C) Solicitors and chartered legal executives with less than four years' post qualification experience. Costs lawyers with more than one years' experience.
D) Trainee solicitors, paralegals and other fee earners. Costs lawyers with fewer than one years' experience.
