Climate change

6 events to look out for at COP26

The UN’s climate change conference, COP26, takes place in Glasgow from 1 to 12 November. The conference is potentially the last opportunity for governments to avoid the most catastrophic effects of climate change. Here are six events for the legal profession to look out for.

1. Lawyers and climate change – leaders or followers?

LawScot COP26 conference

We’re teaming up with the Law Society of Scotland and the Law Society of Northern Ireland to host LawScot COP26 conference – Lawyers and Climate Change: Leaders or Followers on Friday 29 October.

We'll be bringing together lawyers from across the globe on the eve of the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties 2021 (COP26) in Glasgow to discuss the role of the lawyer in an era of climate change.

What will be discussed

The conference will explore the extent of a lawyer’s influence as a trusted adviser on the decisions of their clients. This will be explored from a number of perspectives:

  • the role of legal interventions and climate change litigation
  • ethical issues
  • the role of gender and climate change within legal education

We’ll be hosting a session on being a climate-conscious lawyer: from advocacy to daily practice.
