Change to start of time limit for appeal from magistrates' courts to the Crown Court
From 4 October 2021, the starting point to calculate the time limit for appeals against conviction from a magistrate’s court to the Crown Court will change.
Currently, if a defendant wishes to appeal their magistrates’ court conviction to the Crown Court, they have 15 business days from the date the sentence is passed in the Crown Court.
Under the Criminal Procedure (Amendment No. 2) Rules 2021, the time limit for lodging an appeal will be calculated from the date the case is committed by the magistrate's court to the Crown Court for sentence.
