Video hearings pilot to begin in Birmingham and Manchester

HMCTS will be conducting a small-scale video testing pilot in Birmingham and Manchester civil justice centres (CJCs).

The proposed scope of the hearings for these tests are:

  • applications to set aside default judgments in civil cases, and
  • first direction appointments for financial remedy in divorce where both parties are legally represented

The local CJCs will start identifying suitable cases later this month for video hearings to be listed in February 2019. They will be conducted in normal court operating hours.

There will be drop-in sessions for legal professional awareness held in:

  • Birmingham Civil and Family Justice Centre, Priory Courts, 33 Bull Street at 13:00-14:00 on 14 January 2019
  • Manchester Civil Justice Centre, 1 Bridge Street, West Manchester at 13:00-14:00 on 15 January 2019
