Calls for suspension of Hong Kong’s 'ill-conceived' proposed extradition laws

We're concerned about the human rights implications of proposed amendments to Hong Kong's Fugitive Offenders and Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters legislation.

We've issued our joint observations alongside:

  • the Bar Human Rights Committee of England and Wales
  • the International Bar Association's Human Rights Institute
  • Fair Trials
  • the Defence Extradition Lawyers Forum
  • the International Forum of Extradition Specialists

In the observations, we challenge the suggestion by the Hong Kong chief executive office that the amendments to the extradition legislation are in accordance with international human rights law and internationally accepted extradition practices (including practices in the UK).
