Law and justice snapshot: solicitors and law firms mapped in constituencies

We’ve produced a new map to provide MPs, their staff and stakeholders with a snapshot of law and justice in their area.

The new map shows the number of law firms operating in a constituency, and the number of solicitors based at those firms.

Where a firm’s postcode could not be found in the dataset, solicitors home postcodes are used to map them.

It complements our previous interactive map of Nightingale courts, which were set up as part of its court recovery plan to address the impact of coronavirus on the justice system.

Solicitors and law firms provide huge benefits to local economies, offering the community professional legal advice, supporting local businesses with important business transactions, and by providing jobs for local residents.

Across the country, legal services support around 552,000 full time employees, and the sector was worth almost £60 billion (GVA) in 2018.

Our research has demonstrated that 8,000 new jobs are created and £379 million is added to the economy when the UK legal services sector grows by 1%.

A strong legal services sector underpins the country’s prosperity and will help drive Britain’s economy forward through the recovery from COVID-19.

Ahead of the one-year spending review in November, we’re asking the Treasury to ensure justice spending is protected and that law firms are supported to contribute to the national recovery effort.
