PDC CQS training – frequently asked questions

The PDC is one of the approved training providers for CQS. If you choose to purchase your training from the PDC, these FAQs may assist.

How do I choose the right courses?

New to CQS:

If you have not done any previous Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) training, you will need to take both core training courses to become accredited:

*We will be launching a Protocol in Practice course to reflect the new CQS Protocol being released later this year. Email pdc@lawsociety.org.uk if you would like to be notified when this course is available.

If you are taking Core training, then you will not need to do any of the update courses this year.

Already accredited:

For those of you who have taken CQS training previously, you should only take the two update courses to retain your accredited status:

You will need to complete them both before your reaccreditation date.

If you do not know your reaccreditation date, or whether you are already CQS accredited, contact our CQS team.

For the senior responsible officer:

Every firm must have one appointed senior responsible officer who must have taken the Role of the Senior Responsible Officer training course. This course only needs to be taken once by the responsible individual in the firm. If the senior responsible officer changes, the new senior responsible officer must complete the course.

Additional training:

We also offer a non-mandatory Core Practice Management Standards (CPMS) course that provides an overview of the standards.

How much does the training cost?

All our CQS courses cost £35 + VAT each.

If your firm has more than 16 people who need to take the 2019 update training course, we offer a capped rate of £1,100 + VAT for unlimited access to both courses.

What is my accreditation status?

How do I create a PDC account?

To access our CQS courses, you will need an account on our Professional Development Centre (PDC). You can create an account here.

How do I navigate a course?

I’ve forgotten my login details

You will find links on the login page to help you recover your login details. You can request a recovery message which will be sent to the email address you used to create your account.

Allow 10 minutes for the email to arrive and check your junk and spam folders if you do not receive it.

How do I access my certificate?

Once you have completed your training, you can download a certificate as proof. To do this:

  • log on to the PDC website
  • click on ‘View your training record’ in the ‘Home’ menu tab
  • change the ‘Active’ option to ‘Completed’ using the drop-down menu
  • you will now see all the courses you have completed with the option to view your certificate to the right of each course
 

I failed my assessments, what should I do?

The syllabus for CQS allows you three attempts to pass your assessment at the end of each course.

If you fail your assessment three times, you will be required to retake the course. Email pdc@lawsociety.org.uk and include your username and the course you were taking. We will add a new version of the course to your account.

If your course was allocated to you by an organisation administrator in your firm, they may also be able to reallocate the course for you.

Buy training for someone else in your firm

Organisation administrators can buy training for other people.

First, you will need to register for an account on the PDC (you’ll need your firm’s SRA ID to do this). Then email pdc@lawsociety.org.uk including:

 

  • your username
  • your firm’s SRA ID
  • a statement telling us that you have the authority to be set up as an organisation administrator

The people you are buying training for will also need PDC accounts. Make sure they are registered on the PDC and they have entered their firm’s SRA ID when registering. You can then buy the training and assign it to people within your allocation list.

Can I buy training over the phone?

Unfortunately, we cannot take any bookings over the phone. You will need to book online via the PDC. If you need help with booking, contact the PDC team on pdc@lawsociety.org.uk or 020 7320 5978.

Seeing courses assigned to me

Log on to the PDC website and click on ‘View your training record’ in the ‘Home’ menu tab. From there you can see all courses allocated to you.

If you know that your organisation administrator has assigned training to you, but the courses are not showing in your account, contact the PDC team on pdc@lawsociety.org.uk or 020 7320 5978.

How can I get an invoice for my purchase?

Email pdc@lawsociety.org.uk with your transaction ID, which you will find in your confirmation email and we will arrange an invoice.

Am I required to buy training from the PDC?

No – training may be purchased from any of the approved providers. Find out more
