Take part in the HMCTS online tribunal reform event

29 May 2019

HMCTS is hosting an online event on tribunal reform on Wednesday 26 June 2019 from 1pm to 2pm.

This event will focus on two projects:

  • Immigration and asylum appeals
  • Social security and child support appeals particularly for personal independence payment and employment support allowance

It will also look at the development of continuous online resolution.

Ministers announced last year that there would be a major overhaul of tribunals with appeals to immigration and asylum tribunal rulings becoming mainly digital.

The Law Society expressed concern following the HMCTS tribunal event on 26 February 2019 where it was stated there were no immediate plans to make online asylum forms available in other languages - they would only be available in English and Welsh.

We believe the reforms should include a commitment to making justice open and accessible to all. To individuals involved in immigration and asylum cases, this means ensuring online applications are easy-to-access and comprehensible from the outset – including for those who do not have English or Welsh as their first language. A failure to do so will severely impact on those who do not have access to legal advice, and in many cases, constitute an immediate barrier to justice.

You can submit questions to HMCTS in advance using the event registration form or by sending an email to changesomethingthatmatters@justice.gov.uk.

The event will be recorded and available to watch afterwards.
