Legal Service Board's consultation on reviewing its Internal Governance Rules - Law Society response

12 February 2018

The Law Society has responded to the Legal Service Board’s (LSB) consultation on reviewing its Internal Governance Rules (IGRs).

The Society responded that the review presented an opportunity for the LSB to clarify the requirements and implementation of the IGRs within the current legal framework of the Legal Services Act. The Society stated that:

  • Greater clarity within the IGRs would help approved regulators strike the appropriate balance between regulatory independence and regulatory assurance within the Legal Services Act.
  • Clear, targeted IGRs would support both approved regulators and frontline regulators to discharge their roles effectively, and this in turn will improve and underpin public confidence in legal regulation.
