Rosewell Independent Review on Planning Appeal Inquiries - Law Society response

2 October 2018

The Law Society has responded to the Rosewell Call for Evidence Questionnaire on the efficiency of the Planning Appeal Inquiries process.

The consultation explores the advantages and disadvantages of the inquiry process compared to written representations or hearings, whether the right appeals are subject to an inquiry and contains an analysis of the efficiency of each step in the inquiry process.

The Society then proposes potential pragmatic reforms to fill in any current gaps, including mediation, the possibility to settle a planning appeal by consent and greater use of technology and artificial intelligence.
