Parliamentary briefing: Counter-Terrorism and Border Security Bill - House of Lords report stage

17 December 2018

The Law Society has made clear to government and parliamentarians its concerns about provisions in the Counter-Terrorism and Border Security Bill that would weaken legal professional privilege and restrict access to confidential legal advice from a lawyer.

The Law Society is supporting amendments to the Bill, tabled by the government, that would remove provisions that would allow officials to listen into confidential consultations between a client and their lawyer.

Our key positions, including the amendments we are supporting, are outlined in this briefing.
