President urges ethnic minority members to register to vote in Council elections

The president of the Law Society is urging ethnic minority members to register to vote in the ongoing Council elections before 22 September.

I. Stephanie Boyce

I. Stephanie Boyce, president of the Law Society said:

"I encourage all ethnic minority members to register to vote in the Council elections before 22 September, and to cast your ballots by 27 September.

"I strongly believe that we should make our voices heard. This election is your opportunity to help decide who should represent you and your views on the issues that matter to you most.

"If you’re a Black, Asian, or ethnic minority solicitor who wishes to vote but has not yet received an electronic ballot for this year’s Council elections, you should follow the instructions below."

How to register

To register, please email the following information to councilelections@lawsociety.org.uk before 22 September 2021:

  • your full name
  • SRA number
  • constituency name (for example 'Ethnic Minorities')
  • email address

Automatic registration from 2022

From next year, improvements to My LS will enable you to identify your protected characteristics in your account, if you're happy to do so.

This will automatically register you to vote in future elections where relevant seats are contested.

This will mean that after 2022, you will not have to register again.

What happens once I’ve registered to vote?

Once registered, you'll receive your ballot via email from Civica within five working days.

The email will contain instructions on how to vote, which you can do before the vote closes at 4pm on 27 September 2021.
