English Law Day in China

English law and its international application, especially for trade and investment, is of strong and growing interest to the international legal community. This is particularly true in China, where Britain is among the top 10 nations globally for outbound Chinese investment and attracts more than double the investment of any other nation in Europe.

We hosted a conference in Beijing in partnership with the Great Britain-China Centre to promote the value and principles of both the English legal system and the solicitor profession.

The conference was also supported by the:

  • Beijing Lawyers Association
  • All China Lawyers Association
  • Shenzhen Lawyers Association
  • Guangdong Lawyers Association

It explored the practical applications of English law in international transactions involving parties from both common law jurisdictions and civil law countries such as China. There was a particular focus on how English law can be applied to the benefit of international investment and trade.

The high-level event featured participation from senior legal services stakeholders, including senior UK and Chinese lawyers, as well Professor Shi, vice dean of the prestigious Renmin University Law School.
